Bangkok : Day 3 (The Singlet Day)

It's the third day in Bangkok! And it's the self-proclaimed Singlet Day! Since all of us bought singlets in Khao San the day before, we hiao a bit and decided everyone should wear singlet today. Take it as a theme or something. So, the itinerary for the day is Don Wai floating market, and Terminal 21.

First stop: Don Wai Floating Market! Here's the thing, there's a more famous floating market in Bangkok. The biggest and the most original floating market it seems. The name is Damnoen Saduak floating market. So, we should be going there instead right? But! I happened to be a worrier and did some research with my friend. We read reviews from bloggers who actually went there. It seems that the place is actually butchering tourists. Understandable lar. But some of the reviews claimed that the price hike is too much. One of the bloggers said that an item which costs roughly TB200 can hike up to TB500 in the market. Ouch. I can't remember what item is that nor where I read that review. And name pun dah floating market kan, of course you'll need a boat. One boat for 4 people costs TB1000+. Habis. Mahal betul. Most reviews say that we should go at least once lar. You know, try eating on a boat, take it as a cruise around the area, stuff like that. But don't buy anything from the sellers besides food. Food pun more expensive in the market, or so they say.

I think most taxi companies in Bangkok have some business deal with the floating market. Every taxi driver we met was hard selling the floating market. They even have some information pamphlet or poster ready for us to view. They were like, "This is the best! The most original floating market! Very good! Many tourists go there!" etc. Of course they wanna earn also lor. A trip to the Damnoen Saduak floating market from our hotel takes more than 2 hours, and the taxi drivers gonna charge us TB1000 per trip. Damn expensive lor! Which is why we ended up in Don Wai floating market.

Talking bout Don Wai floating market, we managed to get the hotel management to find a taxi for us. The fare was TB700 I think, to and fro. Cheaper than going to Damnoen Saduak lor. And the ride will take roughly 1 hour. But the place is really out of the way lar. Quite secluded also. No wonder no one wants to drive us there. It's kinda like those markets found in the rural areas.

We reached Don Wai at 10+ but sadly most shops started to close already. WTH. Close so early for what?!!! Maybe it's the rural area setting, everyone goes to market early. Or it's just us being too late. It's like a normal market, but just situated next to a river. So most of the stalls are on top of the river lor. And since most shops are closed, we finished walking around the area quite fast. Nothing to see, nothing to buy. We decided to settle our brunch there, since all of us skipped breakfast. Nothing much to talk about this market. If anyone wants to go there, must go early. If not you'll be greeted by empty stalls. =(

My friend made this. I don't even know when he took this.

The food I had in the floating market. Nothing too special.

Wefie is a must!
After the floating market, we decided to go back to the hotel first. Everyone woke up early so we decided to rest for a while. I bathed and nope, I did not sleep. I FB-ed a while using the hotel's wifi. At roughly 3.00, everyone gathered and we went to Terminal 21. We walked to the BTS Station and took the train to Terminal 21.

What can I say about Terminal 21? It's similar to our Pavilion. Expensive brands. Beautiful decorations. Eye candies everywhere. Lol. But it seems that every floor of the shopping mall has a different theme. Like Paris, or Istanbul. Even the toilets' decorations are different! I can't remember which floor I took the photos, so I'll just let you decide.

Sumo hugging a pillar.

Front view of the toilet.

Oooh bamboo taps.

Roofed cubicles.

Lol the timing is too ngam.

So many mirrors, perfect for narcissist who likes to look at themselves. Lol.

Hotel Transylvania Combo Set. I doubt we have it in Malaysia.

Oscars? Or Grammys?

Pretty lights!

Baking "Chocolate Cake" in the toilet. XD

Roaring taps.

Let's hope somebody don't get seasick.

This must be a Japanese themed toilet. xD

Yep. The entrance.

Different coloured lights.

These are the lanterns on of the floors. Must be the Japanese floor. Lol.

Samurai in glass.

Meowwww~

A cute stall selling coffee. The coffee is kinda nice though. Too bad there's no picture.

An army on guard.

Bling bling!

Love is the word here.

Stumbled upon this cute bear in front of one of the restaurants. So cute lar.

A different angle. Still cute.

Monkey pirates. Lol.

There are really nothing much to say about this place besides the decorations. It's quite a high class shopping mall in my opinion. Judging from the decorations can see lor. Anyway, we had dinner at this mall's food court. I like the system in the food court. First, you'll go to the counter to credit some money into a card. Any amount is alright. But at least TB100 lar. Then, you take the card to the stalls and order whatever food you want. The staff will take your card and swap it. When you're about to leave, you can the card back to the counter to get back all the money left in the card. It's like using a prepaid card really. You give money, they give card. You take card and swap. Then you give card, they give money. Simple kan. Plus you don't need to hold that much cash everywhere. Just hold a card and you can go order. Can top up if not enough credit. I like it because it's less messy this way. Order, swap, take food, leave. Very systematic and organized. I thought only this shopping mall practices this system, but we ate at another mall's food court using this system too. I think most of the shopping malls in Bangkok use this system in their food court. The food in the food court is quite nice too. Wide range as well. Chicken rice, mango sticky rice, pad thai, tom yum, basil chicken, coconut ice cream. I didn't take photos of the food because it's quite common in Bangkok. But they are really tasty. *drools* Oh the coconut ice cream~ *drools*

Well after dinner, we stop by a train station. It seems there's a night market near the station. I can't remember the station's name though. But sadly, the night market closes on that day. Too bad then. Nothing much to do, head back to hotel lor. Semua pun dah tired from walking. That's it for day 3.

Signing off.

  1. Your 3rd day shouldn't be called "Singlet Day", it's more aptly to call it "Market Closing Day", the market you went in the morning, the stalls closing, then the night market near the station is closed on that day. Apa lah? The whole day just walking to see nothing. Hahaha... except for Terminal 21. You didn't buy anything from that mall?
